April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on July 4th July, started taking guitar and piano lessons at age seven. Her interest in creating songs was sparked. At the age of 12, she composed her first single, Different. When April was 14 years old, she dedicated an enormous amount of time developing song ideas and perfecting the music. She began writing along with her dad and her dad in NY and LA shortly after. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in her book Take My Hand to help her friends who were dealing in the face of peer pressure, disability or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart works in partnerships at popular Clean Beauty brand Ilia and is also an influencer in the lifestyle industry with her own growing following. Since she was born without a left hand, Lockhart is a major part of herself. But it's not the only thing she has to tell. The profile of Lockhart on Twitter does not conceal her being disabled however, it doesn't focus on it. The message is? The message? We each contain multitudes, that our identities and physical self aren't as they seem. Lockhart through a video message from Nashville home, states that I do not want that to be a part of my character. I'm much far more than just my physical self. The fact that she is a disability influencer doesn't impact my daily life. It's all normal, and I've learned to adapt. It's also a part of me, and I believe it should be discussed. The journey of self-acceptance that Lockhart has taken is one that will last an entire lifetime. She has been a source of inspiration for this purpose. However, she admits to going through periods when she felt uncomfortable with her appearance, and the clothes which displayed her arms. Nowadays, she dresses whatever she wants and posts pictures of herself in these outfits on social media, she is proud of herself. Self-love, she says is a process. It's not clear if you'll ever reach the point of no return. It's a journey, I don't think you ever get there. It's important to have people around you who are aware of and appreciate you. They'll be the ones asking your: What are you fret about?
